Illegal Alien Advocates Ignore the Real Problem

Two United States Catholic bishops have written to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, asking the agency to adopt policies aimed at assisting families and communities affected by immigration raids. Normally I do not engage in discussions relating to religion, but this issue should be important for all Americans, regardless of their religious orientation.

I recently testified before the Indiana State Senate about a bill (SB 335) that would enable the state of Indiana to revoke the business license of any business that repeatedly hires illegal aliens, and provides other measures to enable that state to do the job the federal government won't do where immigration is concerned. During the hearing, I listened to a representative of the Catholic Church talk about the need to honor the dignity of the "undocumented immigrants."

For the Catholic Church to take a stand on an issue that has such extreme implications for national security is outrageous. What is also outrageous is the fact that while the Church decries the lack of dignity that the arrest of illegal aliens represents (in the Church's judgment), why is the Church conspicuously absent at those factories and other work sites where illegal aliens are horribly treated? Why is the Church not showing up to protest the terrible conditions under which illegal aliens often live and work?

During my long career at the former INS, I found (on many occasions) illegal aliens living in abject squalor.

McCain seen as Republican choice

In my candid opinion,, I believe the world and America needs a good change for the younger generation to lead with young spirit,, unadulterated.

I think Mr barack have more qualitative attributes than all ther candidates in the Presidential race. Here in Anambra State of eastern Nigeria, both young and old and singing Obama Obama is the Man. I think the general assessment gives Mr Obama the go ahead.

So I am for Obama,, my parents and sibblings too. My state and nation is for Obama.

Go Obama,, we all Support you.

Firefighters Gain Ground As Santa Ana Winds Decrease

Helicopters and air tankers dropped 30 to 35 loads of water on two fires that have burned hundreds of homes in the San Bernardino Mountains, near Lake Arrowhead.

"They're taking it down considerably," said Dennis Bouslaugh of the U.S. Forest Service.

Authorities said they had largely contained many of the fires north of San Diego, and all five fires in Los Angeles County were about 50 percent contained or more.

Despite the progress, none of the six major blazes in San Diego County was more than 15 percent contained, and those fires threatened more than 8,500 houses. The top priority was a fire in San Bernardino County that threatened 6,000 homes and continued to rage out of control.

So far, this week's fires have destroyed about 1,500 homes and burned 674 square miles across five counties, from Ventura in the north all the way into Mexico.

Tax amendment's unknowns shouldn't put schools at a loss

There's a lot I don't understand about the property tax amendment that Florida voters approved 64-36 percent last week.

Like how did Gov. Charlie Crist go around promoting it as a tax cut while preparing a state budget that forces school districts to raise the their portion of local property taxes? Is this going to be the same type of empty shell game that occurred last year with hurricane insurance "relief"?

And what happens if you buy a house next week counting on the portability of Save Our Homes benefits and then a court declares the new system unconstitutional? Will you get grandfathered into the new system? Or will you have to cough up thousands more than you figured in annual taxes?
