| The Development of a Jihadist's Mind
I remember one particularly defining moment in an Arabic language class when I was sitting beside a Christian friend named Nagi Anton. I was reading a book entitled Alshaykhan by Taha Hussein that cited the Prophet Muhammad's words: "I have been ordered by Allah to fight and kill all people [non-Muslims] until they say, 'No God except Allah.'" Following the reading of this Hadith, I decisively turned toward Nagi and said to him, "If we are to apply Islam correctly, we should apply this Hadith to you." At that moment I suddenly started to view Nagi as an enemy rather than as a longtime friend. What further hardened my attitude on this matter was the advice I received from many dedicated Muslim fellow students, who warned me against befriending Christians. They based their counsel on the following verse: "O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends: They are but friends to each other.

Moving back to Moscow broke my heart, mostly because of my extreme fondness for cycling in Boise (I should throw a Shout-Out to the Ridges to Rivers system, too, with wonderful mountain biking, too). Moscow just can't compete with that, although the new Latah Trail helps (if they'd just get it paved!) DFO: You've really hit on something here, MM. It's relatively easy to settle on the 7 - 10 natural wonders of Idaho. But what about the manmade ones? The Boise River Greenbelt definitely would be in there. And the North Idaho bike trails (Path of the Hiawatha, Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes, North Idaho Centennial Trail) should be, too. What other manmade places would be on a "wonders" list? .
Colorado can lead the way on warming
Ritter could bomb Colorado back to the stone age and completely and totally destroy our economy by cutting the state's CO2 footprint to 0 and have zero effect on the global climate.2. Coal is our largest energy resource. Cheap reliable energy is the key to economic power and job creation. One of the poor developing counties that you lament is China. China is driving up the global price of coal because they are using so much coal that they must import. So the US will get less competitive and China more competitive with zero effect on Global Warming.3. US hydro power plants over 30MW are not considered renewable and cannot claim CO2 credits. China and other countries around the world are able to sell CO2 offset credits from their large hydropower plants. Again China will be economically enriched by large scale hydro development when the USA is afforded no such opportunity.
Teleconferencing mulled for Oakwood trial
Judge Oscar Pimentel of Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 148 plans to use information technology to make it easier for the accused and their witnesses to "appear" in court. However, the SC must approve the plan. Pimentel presented the idea of teleconferencing to prosecution and defense lawyers after another heated debate in a jampacked courtroom Thursday morning. Pimentel called Assistant Chief State Prosecutor Richard Anthony Fadullon, defense lawyer Ernesto Francisco Jr., and other counsels to his chambers to ask them if they would agree to use the internet, webcams, and computers for the rest of the trial. The prosecution and the defense did not object to the idea. Francisco, who is representing Trillanes and several other Magdalo Group soldiers, said Pimentel intends to ask the SC if teleconferencing can be allowed in a trial.
Soundbooth CS3
Soundbooth CS3, Adobe's new Intel-only audio-editing program, was created with videographers in mind. With a design that video producers will likely find more familiar than traditional audio tools, Soundbooth makes it easy for multimedia creatives—including Flash developers and motion-graphics artists—to fix common audio problems. However, the program may be too limited for sound specialists, professional musicians, or videographers who face complex audio troubles. Familiar face Soundbooth looks very much like other CS3 programs—it features tabbed panels, a central work area, and a collection of tools for performing common operations. Rather than offering countless ways to tweak or add effects to audio waveforms, Soundbooth includes a focused set of tools for performing the kinds of tasks designers most need for their video projects—removing noise, performing basic cuts and fades, and adjusting volume, pitch, and time; adding effects; and automatically generating background music tracks.
